Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
-
Special educational needs and disability (SEND) includes physical, emotional, sensory and learning needs.
-
As part of the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) reforms in 2014, including the new Code of Practice, early years settings and schools are charged with developing a clear approach to identifying children with special educational needs as soon as possible.
-
While some settings are effectively meeting the early identification requirements, other are not.
-
Young child with developmental difficulties inevitably experience issues with speech, language and communication, and indeed this can be one of the earliest indicators. The Teddy Talk Test is an invaluable tool in the process of early identification.
-
For older children, whether in main stream or special educational placements, teachers and therapists will also find the Teddy Talk Test a useful tool. Where skills are similar to a typically developing child of 5 or under, it can help detemine how children are progressing with both their understanding and ability to communicate.
