Can I use the Teddy Talk Test to assess children who are over 5 years old if their speech and language skills are similar to children under 5?

Yes. Although the Teddy Talk Test is designed to evaluate communication skills for children who are 5 years or under, education and health professionals often use it with older children whose communication development is significantly behind their peers. We would however recommend that the results gained are seen as a general estimate of the child's linguistic levels. Always liaise with a Speech and Language Therapist who will be able to make a more accurate assessment taking into account any other factors affecting the child's development.

Can I use the Teddy Talk Test to assess children who are over 5 years old if they have a learning disability or complex needs?

The Teddy Talk Test can be useful for SENCOs and teachers working with older children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. However, it is important to note that the language development of a child with learning difficulties or complex needs may be limited by their learning ability. We would therefore recommend liaison with a Speech and Language Therapist.

Is the Teddy Talk Test standardised?

The Teddy Talk Test is not standardised. It is a screening tool which is intended to act as a starting point to inform early intervention. Speech and Language Therapists will carry out further detailed and formal assessment, should it be required.

Can I purchase the Teddy Talk Test elsewhere?
